The School is a leading centre for scholarship in the field of geography and sustainable development.
The School's aim is to integrate the study of the Earth's system with its landscapes, peoples, places and environments. Teaching and research covers the breadth of the geography discipline, bringing together expertise in the social and natural sciences to examine and develop the principles and practice of sustainable development. The School hosts a number of research groups, including the over-arching Institute for Population, Wellbeing and Environment Research (I-POWER) (https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/geography-sustainable-development/research/centres/#d.en.54063) which provides a platform to exchange research information and ideas.
