Land at Sómastaðagerði and Hraun, Reyðarfjörður: An Archaeological Evaluation
Targeted trenching of two farm-mound sites revealed limited archaeological remains, mainly from the late 19th-20th centuries although at Sómastaðgerði possible Viking Age or high Middle Ages activity was detected. In addition trenching within the homefield of Sómastaðagerði revealed archaeological depositis at a single location. Further trenching close to the shoreline did not reveal additional sites. Further investigation of both farm mounds was seen necessary.
